Elegy

I’ve sailed oceans of agony
lost in fog
navigation long gone
moored in desolation, down I gazed
and dropped a single tear
rippling for a thousand miles
the brine below mirrored in my eyes
then torment came in waves
capsized, I sank into bitter darkness
at first broken by gleams of light, faint
a familiar sight
reflections of the world above
further I sank
keeled to a crushing depth
where men, weighed in horror
leaden with doom
plead with the unfathomable void
insensible and indifferent
the awful truth
submersed in sorrow
an abyss like no other
cold and silent
empty
the blackness, the darkness
forever
