Ode to the Oreo

by Sydney Edwards

I sneak downstairs
No one expects a thing.
Softly, I push the pantry door out of the way.
My mother shrieks
from inside the pantry as a projectile flies across the kitchen.

Startled, I glance down at said projectile.

As my dog creeps closer, I realize
it's a Golden Oreo
.

The golden cracker now dulled by the dirty floor.

My mother, dog, and I look on in sadness.

A life taken too soon.
